Softball Recap: Mayfield Takes a Loss

Mayfield extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 7-9-2 in the process. They came up short against the Providence Pioneers, falling 11-4. The Cubs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pioneers earlier this season, when they won 2-0.

Jaz Johnson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Taylor, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Providence, they pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On Providence's side, Madelynn Watts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Mia Allinson and Gloria Galindo did most of the damage at the plate: Allinson went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs, while Galindo went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave Allinson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Evangelina Aleman, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mayfield will square off against rival Chadwick at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Providence is set to challenge their familiar foe Polytechnic at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
