Preview: Coral Gables Cavaliers vs. Southridge Spartans

The Coral Gables Cavaliers will head out on the road to face off against the Southridge Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Thursday, Coral Gables beat Mater Academy Charter 65-53. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Coral Gables.

Gabriel Chang continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points along with six rebounds and two steals. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcellis Williams, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, Southridge scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They really took it to Downtown Doral for the full four quarters, racking up a 97-54 win at home. Given Southridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 169th, while Downtown Doral is ranked 704th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Rey Daniels, who scored 42 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jan Lopez, who scored 18 points.

Coral Gables' win bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Southridge, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-10.

Coral Gables strolled past Southridge in their previous matchup back in November of 2018 by a score of 69-53. The rematch might be a little tougher for Coral Gables since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
