Baseball Recap: Boulder Creek Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Boulder Creek challenged Liberty on Thursday. The Jaguars fell just short of the Lions by a score of 7-5. The Jaguars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lions earlier this season, when they won 7-5.

Boulder Creek got a good showing from Matt Bentivolio, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs Bentivolio has allowed since back in March.

On the hitting side, Boulder Creek saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Tsau, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Mason Meyer was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Boulder Creek and nudges their season record down to 8-14. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Liberty, their win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-8.

Coincidentally, Boulder Creek and Liberty will both be playing Pinnacle the next time they take the field. The Lions will host the Pioneers at 3:45 p.m. on Monday, while the Jaguars will host them at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
