Basketball Recap: Elkhart Piles Up the Points Against Merrillville

Elkhart hadn't done well against Merrillville recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Lions took their matchup with ease, bagging a 57-17 win over the Pirates. With the Lions ahead 38-9 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Elkhart to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shaniyah Stout, who went 6-for-10 on her way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaniyah Bonner, who posted 13 points along with five assists and three steals.

The victory was the third in a row for Elkhart, bringing their record up to 3-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 52.3 points this season. As for Merrillville, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 1-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Elkhart will venture away from home to challenge South Bend Washington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup will give the Lions their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Merrillville, they are taking a road trip to face off against Columbia City at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
