Volleyball Recap: Escalon Cougars vs. River Islands Riptide

On Friday, the Escalon Cougars didn't have quite enough to beat the River Islands Riptide and fell 3-2. While the Cougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Riptide 25-18 in the first set.

Escalon took River Islands into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-18, 17-15.

Preston Berhorst paced Escalon's offense, picking up 16 kills. Berhorst got some help from Ben Ferreira and his 32 assists. Ferreira was also solid from the service line: he led the team with three aces.

Leading River Islands to victory were Landan Namayan and Kaleb Dela Cruz. Namayan had 22 digs, while Dela Cruz had five aces and three digs.

Escalon's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for River Islands, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-1.
