Recap: Webster County Highlanders vs. Braxton County Eagles
The Webster County Highlanders waltzed into their match on Monday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Braxton County 92-46 at home. Webster County has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 20 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Riley Clevenger, who scored 35 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Raydan Triplett was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals.
Despite the loss, Braxton County saw an underclassman step up: Steve Boggs almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Owen Lowther, who scored five points.
Webster County's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.9 points per game. As for Braxton County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-12.
Webster County will head out on the road to challenge Tug Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Webster County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Tug Valley likes a good challenge. As for Braxton County, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Clay County at 7:30 p.m. Braxton County is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.4 points per game this season.
