Preview: Newport Wildcats vs. Holy Cross Indians
Newport has been on the road for ten straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Holy Cross Indians at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Newport's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three games.
Even though Holy Cross scored an imposing 42 points on Friday, Newport still came out on top. Newport came out on top in a nail-biter against Holy Cross and snuck past 44-42.
Kyle Lee had a dynamite game for Newport, throwing for 375 yards and five touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also punching in a rushing score. Amontae Lowe was another key contributor, picking up 136 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Newport's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Keegan Farrell and his two sacks.
Newport's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-3. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Holy Cross, Dayton, and Bellevue. As for Holy Cross, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-5.
Newport skirted past Holy Cross 44-42 in their previous meeting on Friday. Will Newport repeat their success, or does Holy Cross have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
