Volleyball Recap: Lily Woodworth Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Belmont

Shullsburg won the last time they faced Belmont and things went their way on Thursday too. The Miners put the hurt on the Braves with a sharp 3-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Miners.

Shullsburg was especially dominant in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-7, 25-16, 25-19.

Shullsburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lily Woodworth led the charge by getting five digs and three aces. Those three aces gave Woodworth a new career-high.

Woodworth wasn't the only good servers: Shullsburg was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in eight consecutive matchups.

Shullsburg's victory bumped their record up to 14-7. As for Belmont, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Shullsburg will challenge River Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Belmont, they will be playing at home against Sun Prairie East at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
