Softball Recap: Charlestown Takes Down North Harrison in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Charlestown rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the North Harrison Cougars 3-1. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Hannah Burns spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Charlestown saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avarie Freiberger, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Charlestown's record is now 16-8. As for North Harrison, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.

Coming up, Charlestown will square off against Silver Creek at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dragons have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. North Harrison does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
