Softball Game Preview: Herndon Hornets vs. Oakton Cougars

The Herndon Hornets will head out on the road to take on the Oakton Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

Herndon might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 8-6 to Tuscarora, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Katie McGee made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Jamie Taggart was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Oakton hadn't done well against Westfield recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 10-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

The victory made it two in a row for Oakton and bumps their season record up to 10-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Herndon, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.

Herndon couldn't quite finish off Oakton in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
