Recap: Union Mine Diamondbacks vs. Vista del Lago Eagles
Even though the Vista del Lago Eagles scored an imposing 71 points on Saturday, the Union Mine Diamondbacks still came out on top. Union Mine enjoyed a cozy 86-71 win over Vista del Lago. Given Union Mine's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Vista del Lago is ranked 396th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Isaac Zmerzlikar was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 17 rebounds. The matchup was his third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ethan Gines, who scored 13 points along with 9 assists and 7 steals.
When it comes to explaining why Vista del Lago lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mason Rostami. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points. Myles Ignacio was another key contributor, scoring 10 points.
Union Mine's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Vista del Lago, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.
Union Mine will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Natomas at 7:00 p.m. on December 5th. Natomas has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Vista del Lago, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ponderosa at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Ponderosa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Monday.
