While Northern Highlands might've come up empty on Monday, Matt Sammarco wasn't going down without a fight. Sammarco didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched, good enough for us to rate the performance as the best he's had all season long. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

Even though Sammarco couldn't lead Northern Highlands over Ridgewood, he won't have to wait long to try again: the teams have a rematch scheduled at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Sadly, Sammarco's big day wasn't enough to stop the loss, which snapped the Highlanders' four-game streak of wins on the road. With the streak broken, Sammarco and the Highlanders surely have a bit of extra motivation heading into Tuesday's match.
