Baseball Recap: Lakewood Comes Up Short

Lakewood lost against Ralston Valley back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Tigers fell 10-7 to the Mustangs. While the Tigers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Mustangs 4-0 in the first period.

Mathis Joens was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.

Joens wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Harrison Meade, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Bert Myers also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Lakewood has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Ralston Valley, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-6.

While Lakewood had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
