Monroe waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Columbus Blue Devils, posting a 72-40 win. Given the Golden Tornadoes' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 412th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brayden Burns continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 67% from the field to rack up 12 points in addition to seven boards and six steals. Burns is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Terry, who went 5-for-6 on his way to 12 points.

Monroe's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Columbus, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-7.

Monroe and Colquitt County will compete for holiday cheer at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbus will take on Carver in a holiday battle at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. This will be the Blue Devils' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
