Basketball Recap: Catholic Skates Past Hampton Roads Academy with Ease

Catholic won the last time they faced Hampton Roads Academy and things went their way on Thursday too. The Catholic Crusaders claimed a resounding 56-27 win over the Hampton Roads Academy Navigators. The Crusaders pushed the score to 44-19 by the end of the third, a deficit the Navigators had little chance of recovering from.

Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ashton Walker led the charge by going 8 of 15 on his way to 17 points and three steals. The game was Walker's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Gavin Mallette, who posted ten points along with five assists and four steals.

Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Catholic pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.2 points per game. As for Hampton Roads Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.

Catholic will look to defend their home court on Monday against Atlantic Shores Christian at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Atlantic Shores Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games. Hampton Roads Academy has already played their next contest, a 43-38 win against Grove Christian School on the 31st.
