The Borah Lions will venture away from home to challenge the Mountain View Mavericks at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Borah is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Borah is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest defeat since April 9, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Rocky Mountain by a score of 6-4. Lions fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Grizzlies since on Tuesday.
Justice Pruitt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, Anna Hedt and Reese Naylor stepped up to the plate in a big way. Hedt went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Naylor scored a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie McMullen, who went 3-for-4 with one double.
Meanwhile, Mountain View faced Eagle in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Mavericks came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 8-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mavericks.
Mountain View also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Katy Jackson gave up three earned runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Jackson.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brooke Austin, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Tayelynn Puyleart was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Mountain View's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Borah, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Borah hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Borah beat Mountain View 4-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mavericks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
