Basketball Game Preview: Waynesburg Central Raiders vs. Washington Prexies

The Waynesburg Central Raiders will challenge the Washington Prexies at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Waynesburg Central is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since February 17, 2024 on Monday. They lost 51-31 to Fort Cherry. The game marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

The losing side was boosted by Peyton Cowell, who posted eight points and ten boards. She has become a key player for Waynesburg Central: the team is 5-2 when she posts at least eight rebounds, but 3-4 otherwise. Allie Midla also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Even though they lost, Waynesburg Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Washington). They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Charleroi 78-29. With the Prexies ahead 47-13 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Waynesburg Central better keep an eye on Olivia Woods. She was instrumental in Washington's win, putting up 30 points. That's the most points Woods has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Partozoti, who earned 16 points.

Waynesburg Central's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Washington, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-10.

Waynesburg Central was able to grind out a solid win over Washington in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, winning 40-33. Will Waynesburg Central repeat their success, or does Washington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
