Baseball Recap: Green Hill Hawks vs. Beech Buccaneers
Green Hill had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 18-7 to make it four. They took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Beech Buccaneers. The Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Buccaneers earlier this season, when they won 7-6.
As for Beech, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 22-15. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.
For Beech's part, Kaden Powell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single hit and allowed only two earned runs while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Powell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Beech is 12-4 when Powell posts two or more runs, but 10-11 otherwise.
In other batting news, Jack Douglass was excellent, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Cade Philpot, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
As of now, neither Green Hill nor Beech have any future games scheduled.
