Baseball Recap: Schroon Lake Has No Trouble Against Crown Point

Schroon Lake was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Crown Point on Wednesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 14-5 win. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 9-8 victory the Panthers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2023.

Daniel Pelkey made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Schroon Lake's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Julian Porcaro and Jayce Emmert did most of the damage at the plate: Porcaro got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Emmert got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Porcaro has become a key player for Schroon Lake: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 0-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Lamphear, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Schroon Lake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Schroon Lake's record is now 3-4. As for Crown Point, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.
