Basketball Game Preview: R.J. Reynolds Demons vs. Davie War Eagles

The R.J. Reynolds Demons will head out on the road to take on the Davie War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

R.J. Reynolds is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They snuck past West Forsyth with a 58-52 win last Thursday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Demons' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 414th, while the Titans are ranked 188th).

R.J. Reynolds' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evie Beale, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Hattie Boone, who went 7 for 12 en route to 14 points and six boards.

Beale wasn't the only one working in the assists department: R.J. Reynolds was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Davie waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Bobcats, posting a 70-1 victory. The War Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Davie has also been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.4 points per game. As for R.J. Reynolds, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 4-7.

R.J. Reynolds couldn't quite finish off Davie in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 and fell 46-43. Can R.J. Reynolds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
