Basketball Recap: Rowan Simonson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gordon-Rushville over Perkins County

Gordon-Rushville played a tough game on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Perkins County Plainsmen, falling 64-40. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gordon-Rushville's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rowan Simonson, who almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Simonson a new career-high in field goal percentage (83%). Another player making a difference was Braylynne McKimmey, who posted 15 points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Gordon-Rushville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Perkins County found their leader in sophomore Madison Potts, who went 11-for-19 on her way to 28 points. Those 28 points set a new season-high mark for Potts. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison York, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.

Gordon-Rushville's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Perkins County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-12.

Gordon-Rushville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Perkins County, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 57-36 defeat against Valentine on the 20th.
