Football Game Preview: West Point Dragons vs. Yuma Catholic Shamrocks

Two dominant signal callers in Xavier Martinez and Nash Ott are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The West Point Dragons will head out on the road to challenge the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: West Point has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Yuma Catholic will arrive with five straight wins.

West Point's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Cactus on Friday. They were dealt a 40-0 loss at the hands of the Cobras. While losing is never fun, the Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona football rankings (they are ranked 127th, while the Cobras are ranked 33rd).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Yuma Catholic). They blew past Willow Canyon, posting a 46-7 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

A big part of Yuma Catholic's victory came down to the chemistry between Scout Reese and his top target Brody Amon. Reese threw for 47 yards and three TDs while Amon picked up 55 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those three passing touchdowns gave Reese a new career-high.

Yuma Catholic was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 286 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

One reason for the win was Yuma Catholic's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Maximiliano Orozco, Sahid Verdugo, and Noah Flores, who each picked up one sack apiece.

West Point's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Yuma Catholic, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
