Softball Game Preview: Ridgecroft Rams vs. Hertford County Bears

The Ridgecroft Rams will head out on the road to challenge the Hertford County Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ridgecroft has six straight wins, Hertford County has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Ridgecroft will bounce into Wednesday's match after beating Pungo Christian Academy, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Ridgecroft walked away with a 7-2 victory over Pungo Christian Academy on Thursday.

Klaire Cherry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Vaughan, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Evi Watson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Hertford County and Northeastern, and Northeastern kept the tradition alive. Hertford County lost 15-5 to Northeastern on Friday.

Ridgecroft pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hertford County, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

Ridgecroft took their win against Hertford County in their previous matchup on Wednesday by a conclusive 15-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ridgecroft since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
