League recap: Port Isabel extends winning streak with victory over Grulla

3A Region IV District 32 recap October 1, 2013

Port Isabel extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region IV District 32 this week by beating Grulla, 20-7. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.

La Feria scaled the state rankings by moving to 341 from 397 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Lions climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Santa Maria 42-0.

Eli Pitones threw for 129 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 7-26 with 2 interceptions.

Isaiah Valladarez was the best receiver in the league this week as Rio Hondo lost to Raymondville. Valladarez tallied 4 receptions for 98 yards.

The Bobcats' Pitones and Derek Salazar led 3A Region IV District 32 in both passing and receiving yards. Pitones has thrown for 644 yards this season, while Salazar has 7 catches for 176 yards. Jaime Gonzalez from Port Isabel leads the league in rushing with 481 yards.

La Feria made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,233 from 3,798. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 42-0 victory over the Cougars last week.
