Softball Game Preview: Shepard Astros vs. St. Laurence Vikings

The Shepard Astros are taking a road trip to take on the St. Laurence Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Shepard comes in on four and St. Laurence on six.

Shepard came out on top against Stagg on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run first inning. The Astros' pitchers stepped up to hand the Chargers a 12-0 shutout. The Astros might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 games by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, St. Laurence narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Lyons 2-1.

St. Laurence pushed their record up to 20-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Shepard, their victory bumped their record up to 26-6.

Shepard couldn't quite get it done against St. Laurence when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as they fell 4-0. Can the Astros avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
