Basketball Recap: Mascoma Takes a Loss

Mascoma lost against Monadnock back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mascoma Royals were dealt a 57-17 loss at the hands of the Monadnock Huskies. While losing is never fun, the Royals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Hampshire basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Huskies are ranked tenth).

Mascoma lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Aaralyn Chiasson, who posted nine points. That was a full 52.9% of Mascoma's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Mascoma dropped their record down to 1-10 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Monadnock, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mascoma will square off against Newfound Regional at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mascoma is facing Newfound Regional at the right time seeing as Newfound Regional is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. Monadnock has already played their next game (against Brattleboro), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
