Softball Recap: Newark Takes a Loss

If Newark was riding high fresh off their 12-5 takedown of Indian Creek on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Norsemen took a 14-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Herscher Tigers on Thursday. The Norsemen were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Adelaide Johnson and LeAnn Monsess did some serious damage despite the final result: Johnson went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run, while Monsess went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and two runs. Monsess has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sadie Pottinger, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Newark's loss dropped their record down to 9-8-2. As for Herscher, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-5 record.

Newark wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 4-3 defeat against Batavia on the 18th. As for Herscher, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 3-2 victory against Reed-Custer on the 21st.
