Basketball Game Preview: Brewer Witches vs. Skowhegan River Hawks

The Brewer Witches will challenge the Skowhegan River Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Skowhegan took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Brewer, who comes in off a win.

Last Friday, Brewer didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Camden Hills, but they still walked away with a 54-49 win.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Brewer to victory, but perhaps none more so than Steven Youngs, who went 7 for 12 en route to 20 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Fullerton, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Skowhegan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 47-43 heartbreaker at the hands of Hampden. While losing is never fun, the River Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Broncos are ranked 24th).

Skowhegan's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Brewer, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2.

Everything came up roses for Brewer against Skowhegan in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 68-40 win. Does Brewer have another victory up their sleeve, or will Skowhegan turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
