Softball Recap: Franklin Towne Takes Down MAST Charter II in a Playoff Battle

Franklin Towne extended their postseason success on Monday against MAST Charter II. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Voyagers a 15-0 shutout. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

Shya Cruz was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Cruz was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ann Bernard was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last ten games she's played dating back to last season. Abigail Pelczar was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

The win was the third in a row for Franklin Towne, bringing their record up to 11-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for MAST Charter II, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.

As of now, neither Franklin Towne nor MAST Charter II have any future games scheduled.
