Baseball Recap: Rancho Mirage Comes Up Short

Rancho Mirage was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Heritage Patriots. That's two games in a row now that the Rattlers have lost by exactly two runs.

Rancho Mirage got a good showing from Preston McCullough, who tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave McCullough a new career-low in walks (zero).

On the hitting side, Rancho Mirage got a big performance out of Brandon Anguiano, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Anguiano is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Josiah Thrasher was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Rancho Mirage's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Heritage, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Rancho Mirage will take on West Valley in a tournament on Saturday. The Rattlers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 11.7 runs per game this season. As for Heritage, they will be taking part in a tournament against Redlands at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
