Baseball Recap: Mater Academy East Las Vegas Beats Canyon Springs for Their Fourth Straight Win

Mater Academy East Las Vegas proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 15) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Canyon Springs Pioneers, sneaking past 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Knights have posted since May 3, 2024.

Saul Mercado was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Daylin James was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

The win was the fourth in a row for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, bringing their record up to 10-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Canyon Springs, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 10-0 win against Desert Pines on the 11th. As for Canyon Springs, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Moapa Valley at 3:30 p.m. on the 22nd.
