Basketball Game Preview: Cesar E. Chavez Lobos vs. Heights Bulldogs

Cesar E. Chavez is 0-10 against Heights since January of 2020 but things could change on Saturday. The Cesar E. Chavez Lobos are taking a road trip to take on the Heights Bulldogs at 1:45 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Cesar E. Chavez is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took down Wisdom 39-22 on Saturday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Lobos as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, everything went Heights' way against Wisdom on Monday as Heights made off with a 46-22 victory. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 39-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Generals cut but never quite recovered from.

Cesar E. Chavez better focus on containing Mira Johnson and Jazmyne Gilbert as the pair were huge in Heights' win. Johnson went 8 of 19 en route to 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Gilbert posted 12 points in addition to six boards and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least a third of Heights' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Syphard, who had no points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

Heights' win bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Cesar E. Chavez, their victory bumped their record up to 2-10.

Cesar E. Chavez was dealt a bruising 62-9 defeat at the hands of Heights in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Cesar E. Chavez was down 31-4.
