Softball Recap: Greenville Comes Up Short

Greenville suffered their biggest defeat since May 6, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against the Southwestern Piasa Birds, falling 7-1. If the Comets were looking for revenge after losing 11-4 to the Piasa Birds when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Greenville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Payton White, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Greenville's loss dropped their record down to 18-6-1. As for Southwestern, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 14-3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greenville will square off against North Mac at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.5 runs per game on average), something the Comets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Southwestern, they will face off against Carlinville at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The last four games the Cavaliers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
