Baseball Recap: Iola Snags 12th Win in Last 14 Games

There's no place like home for Iola, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over the Groesbeck Goats on Tuesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-0 back in March.

Grant Goodney made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Brek Roberts was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryan Roubion, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Iola always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Iola has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for Groesbeck, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-9-1.

Coming up, Iola will face off against Danbury at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their 17th straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Groesbeck, they will venture away from home to face off against Franklin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will roll in looking for their 19th straight victory, something the Goats surely won't give up without a fight.
