Basketball Game Preview: Santa Rita Eagles vs. Baboquivari Warriors

Santa Rita hasn't had much luck against Baboquivari recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Santa Rita Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Baboquivari Warriors at 5:30 p.m. Baboquivari took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Santa Rita, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Santa Rita turned things around against San Miguel on Thursday. They breezed by the Vipers to the tune of 55-10. With the Eagles ahead 30-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Santa Rita relied on the efforts of Sayena Alavi, who posted six points in addition to seven steals and six boards, and Amber Samson, who went 6 for 8 on her way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jlynn Smith, who had eight points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Baboquivari came up short against Benson on Tuesday and fell 57-45. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Santa Rita's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-6. As for Baboquivari, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.

Santa Rita couldn't quite finish off Baboquivari when the teams last played back in January of 2015 and fell 49-46. Can Santa Rita avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
