Softball Recap: Winchester Takes a Loss

Winchester was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Belmont Marauders, falling 18-8. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red & Black of the 15-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Gwen Gaiko was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Carys Gugliotta, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Winchester's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Belmont, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Winchester will face off against rival Wakefield Memorial at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Belmont is set to square off against their familiar foe Wilmington at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
