Baseball Recap: Trona Comes Up Short

Trona came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 21-5 to the Lucerne Valley Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Tornadoes have suffered against the Mustangs since March 10, 2017.

Trona saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Doyle Hoover, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one double.

Trona's loss dropped their record down to 1-5-1. As for Lucerne Valley, their victory ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-9.

Coming up, Trona will challenge Immanuel Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Crusaders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.25 runs per game on average), something the Tornadoes will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lucerne Valley, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Palmdale Academy Charter School at 3:15 p.m. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
