Softball Game Preview: JSerra Catholic Lions vs. Orange Lutheran Lancers

JSerra Catholic hasn't had much luck against Orange Lutheran recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Lions will square off against the Lancers at 3:30 p.m. The last five games JSerra Catholic has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Thursday, JSerra Catholic didn't have quite enough to beat Santa Margarita and fell 5-3.

JSerra Catholic got a good showing from Liliana Escobar, who tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Zena Edwards and Lauren Gaitley stepped up to the plate in a big way. Edwards went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Gaitley went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Gaitley's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Orange Lutheran faced La Mirada in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Lancers were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Matadores. The victory continues a trend for the Lancers in their matchups with the Matadores: they've now won six in a row.

Rylee Silva spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Orange Lutheran got a massive performance out of Kai Minor, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one double, and one RBI. Those four runs gave Minor a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cate Medvitz, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

JSerra Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Orange Lutheran, their win bumped their record up to 20-3.
