Baseball Preview: Cabrillo Jaguars vs. Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits
Cabrillo is 0-10 against Long Beach Poly since May of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Jaguars will challenge the Jackrabbits at 6:30 p.m. Cabrillo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Cabrillo played in-conference for the first time on Wednesday and got just the result they were looking for. They won by a run and slipped past Compton 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Jaguars have posted since February 20th.
Ricky Barron was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Bendito Diaz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Long Beach Poly didn't have quite enough to beat Lakewood on Wednesday and fell 7-6. That's two games in a row now that the Jackrabbits have lost by just one run.
Long Beach Poly also got a good showing from Ryan King, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Will Trunnelle made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Fausto Gaxiola III, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
The win got Cabrillo back to even at 10-10. As for Long Beach Poly, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-9.
