Softball Recap: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Granada Hills Charter Highlanders
Cleveland extended their losing streak to 12 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 2-16 in the process. They lost 16-2 to the Granada Hills Charter Highlanders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Highlanders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in April.
Cleveland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jessica Van Zyl, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
As for Granada Hills Charter, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.
On Granada Hills Charter's side, Lainey Brown was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits Brown has posted since back in April of 2024. Jasmine Soriano also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Cleveland will take on rival Birmingham at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Granada Hills Charter is set to square off against their familiar foe El Camino Real at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
