Video: Xcellent 25 Volleyball Rankings - Sept. 16Another week, another new No. 1 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Volleyball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
Week 1 was St. James Academy (Lenexa, Kan.) on top. Week 2 was Corona del Mar (Newport Beach, Calif.). This week, the top spot belongs to Indianapolis Cathedral, a team that seems to get stronger as the season grows.
Cathedral recorded two more lopsided wins last week to run its record to 15-0 and take over the top spot in this week's rankings. Led by juniors
Nia Parker-Robinson and
Maria Schorr, Cathedral has won 37 of 43 sets this season.
Last week's top-ranked team, Corona del Mar, finished third in the Dave Mohs Tournament, losing in the semifinals to Santiago (Corona, Calif.). The loss dropped CDM to 7-1 on the season and to No. 5 in this week's rankings.
St. James Academy opened the season No.1, but lost its opener and stands at No. 24 this week.
A pair of Florida teams – No. 2 Winter Springs and No. 3 P.K. Yonge (Gainesville) – have their sights set on Cathedral.
In addition to Santiago, new to the Top 25 this week are Papillion-La Vista South (Papillion, Neb.), Sacred Heart (Louisville, Ky.), Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.), Dorman (Roebuck, S.C.) and Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.).
