Football Game Preview: Edgewood Bulldogs vs. Chisum Mustangs

The Edgewood Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the Chisum Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Edgewood knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Chisum likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, everything came up roses for Edgewood against Harmony as the team secured a 35-7 victory. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while the Eagles are ranked 880th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Edgewood's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Trevor Golightly, who rushed for 74 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only seven carries, and Lucas Pippin, who rushed for 109 yards and two TDs on only eight carries. Pippin's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 108 rushing yards. Edgewood also got help from Jathen Johnson, who showed off his sure hands for 95 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Edgewood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 263 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 166 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Chisum came up short against Harmony on Thursday and fell 22-15. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Edgewood has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Chisum, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Everything came up roses for Edgewood against Chisum in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 61-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
