Basketball Game Preview: Discovery Canyon Thunder vs. Lewis-Palmer Rangers

Discovery Canyon is 1-9 against Lewis-Palmer since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Discovery Canyon Thunder will challenge the Lewis-Palmer Rangers at 7:00 p.m. Discovery Canyon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.5 points per game this season.

Discovery Canyon is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 64-59 heartbreaker at the hands of Cheyenne Mountain. That's two games in a row now that the Thunder have lost by exactly five points.

Despite their defeat, Discovery Canyon saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Noah Eckels, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. That's the most boards Eckels has posted since back in December of 2024. Mitchell Vorwaller was another key player, putting up ten points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Discovery Canyon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Lewis-Palmer suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against Lutheran, falling 63-40. While losing is never fun, the Rangers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Lions are ranked 15th).

Lewis-Palmer is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-10. As for Discovery Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-7.

Discovery Canyon came up short against Lewis-Palmer when the teams last played back in January, falling 50-46. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Lewis-Palmer's Jonas Miller, who went 6-for-11 en route to 17 points along with seven boards and three steals. Now that Discovery Canyon knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
