Softball Game Preview: El Monte Lions vs. Westminster Lions

El Monte is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Westminster is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. El Monte is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over Garey. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted since April 19, 2024.

The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Herrera, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

El Monte always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Garey only posted an OBP of .382.

Meanwhile, Westminster got the win against Fillmore on Saturday by a conclusive 14-8. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

El Monte has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Westminster, their victory bumped their record up to 15-11.
