Basketball Recap: Clayton Takes a Loss

Clayton lost against Cleveland back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Clayton Comets were beaten by the Cleveland Rams 78-29. The Comets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.

When it comes to explaining why Clayton lost, don't look at Y'Zana Lee Randle. Despite the final result, she posted 16 points. That was a full 55.2% of Clayton's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Leading Cleveland to victory were Angelia Dunn and Izzy Sholar. Dunn went 13-for-18 on her way to 31 points in addition to five assists and five boards, while Sholar dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Cleveland is 5-1 when Dunn posts 20 or more points, but 4-10 otherwise. Lacey Morris also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Clayton's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Cleveland, their record now sits at 9-11.

Clayton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 42-39 victory against Fuquay - Varina on the 7th. As for Cleveland, they have also already played their next game, a 68-44 win against Garner on the 7th.
