Basketball Recap: Kelby Martin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Zanesville over Granville

Zanesville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-47 heartbreaker at the hands of the Granville Blue Aces. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 424th, while the Blue Aces are ranked 192nd).

Zanesville's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kelby Martin, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 20 points. Those 20 points gave Martin a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucca Wood, who went 5-for-11 on his way to 13 points and six boards.

Zanesville's defeat dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Granville, their win bumped their record up to 15-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Zanesville will challenge Dover at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Granville, they and Hamilton Township will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played.
