Softball Recap: Seven Straight Home Wins for Gila Bend

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gila Bend). They were the clear victors by a 28-4 margin over the Berean Academy Eagles on Tuesday. The Gila Monsters have beaten the Eagles the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.

Nadiyah Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs but no hits. Martinez was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.

In other batting news, Gila Bend got a massive performance out of Sierra Loper, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Leila Martinez, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Gila Bend always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .889. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Gila Bend pushed their record up to 3-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.3 runs over those games. As for Berean Academy, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gila Bend will challenge Sequoia Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Berean Academy, they will take on Ajo at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ajo has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14 runs per game on average), something Berean Academy will no doubt try to take advantage of.
