Baseball Recap: Elida Extends Winning Streak to Five

Elida barely beat Kenton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs blew past the Wildcats 10-3 on Thursday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by seven runs or more this season.

Colton Graham made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ben Adcock, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Darien Jones was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Elida was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Elida, bringing their record up to 7-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Kenton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Elida is taking a road trip to take on Ottawa-Glandorf at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Kenton, they will welcome Carey at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Blue Devils' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
