Softball Game Preview: Los Angeles CES Unicorns vs. University Wildcats

The Los Angeles CES Unicorns will take on the University Wildcats at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Monday just wasn't the day for Los Angeles CES' offense. They came up short against Venice on Monday, falling 26-0. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Unicorns' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, University fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Palisades on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They lost 25-18 to the Dolphins. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Dolphins 9-2 in the first period.

Ditagi Smith and Julissa Jimenez stepped up to the plate in a big way. Smith got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two runs and two RBI, while Jimenez got on base in two of her six plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Daniela Escobar was another key player, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

University dropped their record down to 5-7 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Los Angeles CES, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-6.

Los Angeles CES took their victory against University in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 12-5 score. Will the Unicorns repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
