Basketball Recap: Joey Ocegueda Key Part of a Team Effort in Flashes Win

Fillmore's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Nordhoff Rangers 61-59. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 66-35 back in December of 2024.

Fillmore got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Joey Ocegueda out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Ocegueda a new career-high in assists (six). Another player making a difference was Jaime Soto, who posted 14 points and five steals.

Several Rangers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jeremy Kirchner, who went 10 for 16 en route to 22 points. Jonathan Roman was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards.

Fillmore's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-15. As for Nordhoff, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season.

Fillmore didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 81-51 defeat against Santa Paula on the 29th. As for Nordhoff, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-34 loss against Cate on the 25th.
